Some Tips To Prepare For Your Tanzania Safari

People have been taking African safari tours for centuries, and with good reason – heading into the African plains to experience up close and personal encounters with the animals and scenery that is only present in that country is something that you will never forget. And thanks to today’s lower costs, setting up a safari in Tanzania has never been more affordable or simple.

Of course, you’re still going to be embarking on an adventure. This means that before you leave for your Tanzania safari you’ll want to take steps to make sure you are fully prepared for the experience. Here are a few key tips to keep in mind that can ensure you’re ready for your journey.

  • Know The Accommodations – Your Tanzania safari will last for more than just a day and a night. You’ll want to make sure you’re aware of what kind of accommodations you’re staying in so you can be mentally prepared for it. Check into this before you finalize your plans to ensure you’re getting the accommodations you want.
  • Check The Season – Any time of year will be great for African safari tours, but understand that the rainy seasons during October/November and April/May can get quite wet. Additionally, from Christmas to mid-January is peak season and can be far harder to book. In other words, the time of year you plan your trip can have a big impact on your experience.
  • Check On The Guide – Good tour companies will have English speaking guides, and some will have guides that speak other languages as well. Pay attention to the guide, their reputation, and their capabilities before you book.
  • Know The Area – A good Tanzania safari is something that should take you through the right areas in Africa. From Kilimanjaro to the Serengeti to Lemosho, there are numerous areas you’ll want to look into. Each offers its own experience, so choose the one that’s right for you.
  • Pack Properly – You’ll want to pack smart. Lighter is better, but be sure that you bring the right items and clothing that you’ll need throughout the trip. Take a look at recommended luggage and recommended gear in order to get a better idea about just what you’ll want to pack for your experience.

If you take a few minutes to make sure you’re prepared properly, you’ll be able to plan and enjoy your safari experience the right way. The tips above can help you get the most from your safari in Tanzania.

A Tanzania Safari Could Be An Amazing Adventure

There are plenty of experiences out there that can truly be called amazing, and for many people the opportunity to live through them is very rare. However, booking a Tanzania safari is something that might be more affordable and more possible than you realize – and it could be the adventure of a lifetime that you’ve been waiting on.

African safari tours allow you to experience one of the most famous and beautiful landscapes in the world, and to do so in a truly majestic way. Instead of just passing through some of the more urban areas in Africa in the hopes of seeing an animal or two, you’ll actually be leaving on a long excursion through the African plains of Tanzania, seeing amazing animals up close and personal.

Animals might include rhinos, wildebeests, zebras, lions, and a huge range of other animals that make the cradle of civilization their home. And you’ll be driving through their homelands in vehicles that allow for up close experiences. Additionally, all-inclusive packages allow you to include accommodations within the price, making it much easier to plan out your trip and make the most of it.

These trips do require some basic planning, of course. You’ll want to time the trip properly, though any time of year is possible for African safari tours. Certain months and seasons may be better than others or rainier than others, and peak season is generally from Christmas to January. Still, you can expect to see animals and have a great adventure no matter the time of year – some times just offer better experiences than others.

It’s also important to pay attention to things like the specifics of your accommodations in order to understand what to expect. For example, most safaris will involve basic accommodations that can be compared to 3 star accommodations in America. But 5 star level accommodations are available provided you secure them. Planning ahead will make a difference here.

All in all, going on a Tanzania safari is an experience that you and your friends or family will remember for the rest of your lives. If you’re looking for a trip that truly is unlike any you’ve ever taken, it’s well worth considering heading to the African plains and seeing some of the planet’s most amazing animals up close and personally for yourself. It’s easier to plan for than you might realize, and the prices are often more affordable than people think as well.

Taking The Adventure Of A Lifetime

For many people, the prospect of just traveling to see new places either in country or internationally can be an exciting prospect for life enrichment through experience.  Ultimately, as people become more familiar with moving outside of their own comfort zone, they are also able to gain wider perspectives on life as well as rediscover purpose.

Of course, certain travel plans or destinations can greatly enhance the overall experience, and exotic places with rare geographical formations and regional wildlife also contribute to the choice of destination.  African safari tours can be the ideal way to plan a personal or family vacation that is not soon to be forgotten.

Different Ways To Explore Nature

One of the amazing things about embarking on an African safari tour, is that travelers in current times have far more options for the manner in which they conduct their vacation.  Solo travelers, or peer groups that are traveling together, will sometimes opt for more traditional experiences with a Tanzania safari.  This can include choices such as:

  • Spending nights out in the bush
  • Photo tracking animals for several days
  • Taking a more survivalist approach to the excursion

Although this may seem very minimalist to the more refined traveler, many visitors greatly enjoy these types of African safari tours, especially as it affords the benefit of really getting to observe and study wildlife, as well as get a real feel for what Tanzania offers as a unique geographical and ecological environment.

Tours that may seem more minimalist in accommodations, however, are still well equipped for safety and survival methods, which means that visitors can still feel the thrill of a safari, but with much less concern over accidents and danger.  This approach is also highly popular with many eco-tourists and even photography students.

Vacations that range from luxurious to survivalist are all options for African safari tours, and can gain the interest of travelers from all walks of life.  These types of explorations also appeal to a deeper sense that many people have of wanting to both see and experience more than their own environments have to offer.  In taking a Tanzania safari, travelers can make a bold leap from familiar destination spots to exotic locales.

This can also make it very important for travelers to fully research their trip destination and itinerary, in order to determine whether this leap to the unknown still fits with personal needs and desires for taking an African safari tour.

A Modern Perspective On Tourism

As overall global relations between individuals are increased via internet access and social networking, there has also been a significant shift in the perspectives that people take on tourism.  At present, many views can greatly influence decision to travel, but changes in how tourism is directed to benefit both travelers and native populations have also created significant benefits in encouraging travel.

African safari tours based out of Tanzania have exhibited some of the strongest results, which has also encouraged more visitors to stay, explore, and even participate in community events for support and fundraising.  As a result, significant advances in the community have been made in regards to:

  • Education
  • Healthcare
  • Disease research
  • Population resources

This also illustrates how different approaches to tourism and a Tanzania safari can facilitate long term benefits to communities and travelers.

The Importance Of A Home Base

For many of our visitors who are new to the idea of an African safari tour, the environment and the local can definitely cause a sense of trepidation, but only because these aspects are so foreign.  To this end, having a home base such as  a luxury hotel and ease this initial anxiety, and can also let travelers know that they always have a familiar space to return to.

However, even in having a comfortable home base, part of the reason tourists will opt for a Tanzania safari is to experience the unknown and the exotic.  As a result, luxury hotels will also provide sound itineraries that can include:

  • Living like a Massai for a day
  • Balloon rides over the Serengeti
  • Actual ride through safaris
  • Hiking Mount Kilimanjaro
  • Participating in fundraisers and marathons within the community
  • Touring the market in Zanzibar

Options such as this will also let visitors have the dual experience of familiarity and comfort in traditional hotel accommodations, as well as getting closer to nature and truly seeing the full splendor of the land.

Changing Lives

For both tourists and the general community, visitors who decide to adventure on African safari tours are truly helping to change lives for the better.  Visitors gain life changing experiences through their interactions with wildlife and nature, as well as the expanded perspective on people and life.  For the community, the contributions and especially the participation that tourists offer, make a manifest change for resources and a more sustainable community.

Helpful Tips As You Prepare To Climb Mount Kilimanjaro

What could possibly be more thrilling than the chance to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s tallest walkable mountain?

Make no mistake, this journey will be hard, but so very worthwhile. Passing through 5 different climate zones before reaching an elevation of 19,341 feet, or 5,895 meters, above sea level.

So how do you get ready for such an adventure?

  1. Choose a Good Tour Operator: This is essential as Kilimanjaro can only be climbed along established routes, with an organized trek. Now you’re one step ahead, because award-winning Zara Tours is one of the best tour operators in Tanzania, with more than 25 years of experience and over 80 guides who speak English, German, and Spanish.
  2. Select a Route. There are several different routes up the mountain, taking anywhere from 5 to 11 days, varying in difficulty and cost. Longer routes give you a greater chance of success, as you have more time to acclimate to the altitude changes. Marangu and Rongai are considered less difficult, while Machame, Shira, and Limosho are harder.
  3. Plan Ahead. January-March and September-October are considered “high season”, when the weather conditions are ideal for climbing. Choose your dates and book your climb well in advance to ensure your spot.
  4. Get Into Shape. The more walking and hiking you do now, the easier you will find your hike up Kilimanjaro. Break in a pair of good hiking boots, hike in nearby hills, climb lots of stairs–anything to build up stamina and get ready. Have a basic medical check-up done as well, to make sure you are fit and healthy.
  5. Pack Carefully. Pack light while also bringing everything that you will need to deal with variations in altitude and temperature. You can also rent equipment and clothing locally if needed. Leave all important documents, passport, and credit cards at the hotel, you won’t need them on the mountain.
  6. Prepare for Altitude Change. As you reach greater heights, pace yourself, taking the Swahili “pole, pole”–slowly, slowly–well to heart. Acute Mountain Sickness comes with headaches, nausea, and disorientation, so descend if you feel any of these symptoms! Drink lots of water, ask a doctor about medicine, and confirm your guide has additional supplies.

Some recommend that climbers walk high and sleep low, taking a walk ahead of your camp before coming back down for the night.

  1. The Final Ascent. This will be the hardest part of your climb so focus on your goal and stay determined, you are almost there! Watch the sunrise, take lots of photos, and head back down the mountain before the high altitude takes its toll.
  2. Celebrate! Once you’re back down the mountain, it’s time to celebrate! You did it! Consider this an impressive accomplishment, order a drink, and then take a nap!

This climb will be a life-changing event for you, so do all you can to prepare before you begin!
