For the seventh year in a row, Zara Tours will be sponsoring the Ngorongoro half marathon, which will be held on April 19, 2014 in Arusha, Karatu. It’s all part of raising awareness and fighting Malaria. World Malaria Day is April 25.

One Life Every 10 Minutes

Education and awareness is essential in a country where Malaria takes the life of one person every 10 minutes. So far, 189 runners have been asked to participate. They will spread the word about the disease, and offer information that will be backed up by prevention supplies, tests and treatments, and promotional items.

The main race is scheduled for April 19, but other races and events are also scheduled on April18, making this the perfect opportunity to include it as part of your Tanzania adventure. All participating runners will receive a t-shirt and refreshments. In addition, the top runners have a chance at cash prizes. The amounts vary by race and placement.

Zara Tours is also offering a little something extra to interested race participants. They are promoting a $50 discount on any safari or climbing excursion, including treks to Mount Kilimanjaro. Interested tourists can add to their Tanzanian adventure through this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Two Signature Trips, One Unique Itinerary

These races aren’t your only opportunity to make a tangible difference through tourism. Zara Tours is also hosting a 6-day trek on Kilimanjaro to participate in the clean-up effort.

These special trips are scheduled twice a year to help in the solid waste management initiative that aims to remove climb-related and man-made waste from the mountain. Special discounts are given to volunteers and 20% of the proceeds will go to charity. Contact the company directly if you would like to participate in both events.

This is your chance to have a Tanzania adventure that is memorable and impactful. It truly illustrates what sustainable tourism is all about. It should also be said that these are not the only opportunities available to participate in if you’re wanting to make a difference.

Check out our company website to see a full list of charitable activities available. While there, see what other visitors and climbers are doing to make a difference in Tanzania and the world-at-large. When we band together, we can make a change for the better. Join us, and be a part of that change this April. Check the website often, as our listings frequently get changed or updated.
